Woman of the Year 2007

Mary Alvord

On Saturday, November 3, 2007 we will be honoring lifelong resident and current City Manager of Burbank, Mary Alvord.

A role model for many, Mary worked her way up the ladder in the Parks and Recreation Department, beginning as a junior recreation leader where she was teaching and leading young children in the ‘70s, to the Director of Park, Recreation and Community Services in 1991. Many of our beautiful parks, recreation and nature centers were designed and dedicated under her leadership, serving as a portion of her legacy to the community that she so loves.

The many programs enjoyed by the community and social services provided by non-profits and other organizations are successful today in part because of her vision and dedication to Burbank. Mary has served in many diverse roles, including leader, manager, executive, mentor and confidante, is widely respected by her peers and is an inspiration to young women and men looking for careers in public service.
