Woman of the Year 2008
Lucy M. Burghdorf
On Saturday, November 1, 2008 we will be honoring Lucy Burghdorf.
A lifelong Burbank resident, Lucy Burghdorf is currently the Manager of Community Relations at the Bob Hope Airport. A member of the Airport’s Community Relations team since 1995, Lucy is well known in Burbank as she reaches out to the various segments of the community, promoting better understanding between the airport and its neighborhoods, as well as mitigating problems before they occur. As Manager of Community Relations, Lucy has organized an annual Community Read Day at Bret Harte Elementary School, hosted the City’s largest Blood Drive benefiting Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center and arranged the Centennial of Flight & History of Aviation Display at the Joslyn Adult Center and the Buena Vista Branch Library in Burbank.
Despite a demanding career, Lucy still finds time to give back to the city that she loves. It is this volunteer service that has earned her the honor of Burbank’s 2008 Woman of the Year. Since May 2001, Lucy has served as a council appointed commissioner on the City of Burbank’s Transportation Commission, including service as Chairperson for two years. Volunteering time on the Burbank Business Partners Board, Lucy chaired the State of the Schools Breakfast in 2006 and 2007. She also serves on the Burbank Adult School Community Advisory Committee and the Burbank Community YMCA Marketing and Communications Committee. She is a member of the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board, as well as an active member of the Burbank Noon Kiwanis. In addition to these positions, Lucy also is a guiding force on the board of directors of Leadership Burbank, an organization dedicated to preparing future community leaders, where she just finished serving a term as Chairperson.
It is Lucy’s family, however, who are her pride and joy and keep her motivated. She is the mother of two children, Trisha and Christopher. Trisha, a Speech Language Pathologist and her husband Bradley, a sales executive for a New York-based market research company, live in San Diego. Christopher is currently a freshman at California State University Monterey Bay, majoring in Business-Hotel Management.
Educated in the Burbank school system, Lucy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of LaVerne.
