Uniting Against Human Trafficking: Highlights from Our Community Forum with Leading Advocates and Survivors

The Zonta Club of Burbank Area proudly hosted an impactful Human Trafficking Forum on January 27, 2024, marking a significant moment in our ongoing commitment to combat human trafficking. Held at the Burbank Buena Vista Public Library, the event convened a remarkable assembly of experts, advocates, survivors, and community members, all dedicated to eradicating this pervasive threat.

Our forum was graced by the insights and experiences of distinguished speakers who are at the forefront of the fight against human trafficking. We were honored to have Sandy Esparza from ZOE International, who shared her harrowing yet inspiring journey as a survivor. Patrick Erlandson of Father-Con, Nayeli May, the Executive Director of Journey Out, and Sergeant J. H. Walker, a dedicated member of the Los Angeles County Human Trafficking Taskforce, also contributed their invaluable perspectives. Together, they illuminated the complexities of human trafficking and underscored the urgent need for community involvement in protecting our youth from abuse and exploitation.

The Zonta Club of Burbank Area extends its deepest gratitude to the Burbank Public Library for hosting this pivotal event. We also wish to acknowledge our exceptional speakers, our devoted club members who volunteered their time, and all attendees who made this forum a success. Special thanks are due to Gloria Salas and Joy Collins-Brodt, whose leadership and vision were instrumental in bringing this event to fruition.

As we reflect on the insights gained and the stories shared, we are reminded of the critical role each of us plays in safeguarding the most vulnerable among us. The forum not only provided a platform for learning and discussion but also reinforced our collective resolve to take actionable steps towards preventing human trafficking.

The Zonta Club of Burbank Area is committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of women and girls, striving to eliminate threats such as human trafficking and child marriage in California and beyond. We invite individuals who are passionate about these issues to join us in our efforts. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those at risk and work towards a future free from exploitation.
