Mark your calendars, film enthusiasts and advocates for change! The Zonta Club of Burbank Area is thrilled to announce an exclusive screening of the powerful new documentary, SCARS UNSEEN, at the Colony Theatre in Burbank on Thursday, October 10th at 6 p.m.
About SCARS UNSEEN
SCARS UNSEEN is an inspiring new film that brings to light the stories of three incredible women who not only survived domestic violence but are now on a mission to pay it forward. Directed by the talented Meredith Yinger, this documentary dives deep into the healing journeys of these courageous women, showcasing the tools they used to build resilience and reclaim their lives amidst the shadows of their past.
Why This Film Matters Now
In a time when the pandemic has led to a surge in domestic violence cases worldwide, SCARS UNSEEN serves as a beacon of hope. The film aims to:
De-stigmatize Victimhood: By sharing these raw and real stories, the documentary encourages victims to come forward and seek help without fear of judgment.
Encourage Open Dialogue: It fosters an environment where conversations around abuse are normalized, helping to break the silence that often surrounds this issue.
Change the Narrative: SCARS UNSEEN challenges the conventional narrative around domestic violence, shifting the focus from victimhood to empowerment and resilience.
Special Note
This film includes discussions of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and suicide. While the filmmakers have done their best to explore these topics conscientiously, remember that we are looking through the lens of a few people’s experiences. Please take care of yourself and find support if you are struggling with these topics.
Special Q&A Session
Adding to the evening's significance, director Meredith Yinger and two subjects of the film, Trish Steele, founder of Safe Passage Heals, and Adrienne Rouan, will participate in a Q&A session following the screening. This is a unique opportunity to gain deeper insights into the making of the documentary, the experiences of the film subjects, and the broader implications of their stories.
