On October 10, 2024, the Zonta Club of Burbank Area brought the community together for a special screening of the documentary Scars Unseen at the Colony Theatre in Burbank. The event, held in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, was an inspiring and moving evening aimed at raising awareness and supporting survivors of domestic violence.

The night began with a pre-screening reception where attendees gathered for fellowship, participated in a silent auction, and learned more about domestic violence recovery efforts. The film itself, directed by Meredith Yinger, powerfully told the stories of three women—Maha Bodhi, Adrienne Rouan, and Trish Steele—who have overcome the trauma of domestic violence and are now dedicated to helping others in similar situations. Their stories of resilience moved the audience and served as a reminder of the importance of sharing these experiences.

Following the screening, Zonta Club of Burbank Area President Lynn Lipinski moderated a panel discussion with the director and two of the film’s subjects, Trish Steele, Adrienne Rouan and Victoria. The panel offered deeper insights into the film's creation, the personal challenges of sharing these stories, and how each woman found her path to healing. Audience members engaged in a heartfelt Q&A, further highlighting the power of the film’s message.

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our incredible sponsors. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to:

  • The Colony Theatre, our second Spotlight Sponsor, who graciously provided the venue and supported the screening in every way.

  • The Foxwynd Foundation, one of our Marquee Sponsors, for its commitment to helping us raise awareness through this important event.

  • Gloria Salas, Zonta District 9 Governor and former Zonta Burbank President, for her tireless support as a Marquee Sponsor and inspiration to all of us.

  • Drs. Armond and Gayane Aghakhanian, Rita Boccuzzi, Brainspan LLC, Sharon Cohen, Rebecca Gimple, Romik and Lucy Hacobian, Anthony and Ellen Portantino, Richard and Jennifer Vaughan, and Jane Viar—our incredible Screen Sponsors who helped make this event a success.

Through your generosity, we were able to share the important message of Scars Unseen with the Burbank community, advocate for survivors, and support our ongoing work to empower women and girls.

The evening was a true testament to the power of community, and we are so grateful to everyone who came out to support this important cause. Together, we can continue to raise awareness, end domestic violence, and build a better world for women and girls.

Stay tuned for future Zonta Club of Burbank Area events and initiatives! Thank you again for your unwavering support!
